The Power of Gratitude

In a world full of tips on how to accomplish almost anything, those “5 Easy Tips to Success” become afterthoughts by the end of most articles. In the presentation “ABCs to Outstanding,” I share tips that will move you from average and ordinary to outstanding. And, just like those articles we read, those tips are easy to do BUT also they are easy not to do. That’s why I focus on daily habits to bring those tips to life.

Using the power of gratitude is one of those tips, and the most impactful I have found.

A grateful heart leads to a positive attitude and a joyful heart. So, one of the daily habits I strongly recommend is to start each day by writing down or mentally noting at least three things that you are thankful for. It’s a one minute exercise that impacts our thinking, which leads to better thoughts, words and actions.

Even when we are stressed or facing what appears to be an unsurmountable challenge, this habit of gratitude will provide you with the energy to face the day with a brighter outlook. It will lower your stress level and if you don’t believe me, then try it.

If we think of gratitude as less of a “feeling” and more of a behavior or daily habit, we can behave our way into a life where we feel the power of gratitude in everything we do. We can strengthen our building blocks of positive energy and sense of belonging within the Wise Firm if we use the power of gratitude.

Today, I challenge you to a simple power surge: for 21 days—starting today, I challenge you to purposely share gratitude with three different people in your life. (This can be at work, someone in your family, or just someone that held the door for you that morning.) Just saying a sincere “Thank You” or “I appreciate you” is all it takes. You can share your gratitude in a note, an email, a phone call, a text, or best of all, face to face. Remember, it sounds easy to do BUT, it’s easy not to do. Will you choose the power of gratitude?

I can’t wait to feel the power surge. Let me know how it works out for you.
