I think I can...I think I can...I think I can. These are infamous words from a childhood story we all know well. The purpose of the story is to build up self-confidence in young children so they won’t give up when times get hard. This same principle can and should be applied to adults as well.
Sometimes we will experience tough times in our career that can be very frustrating such as finding your purpose in your current job or simply finding a job that you can look forward to going to every day. I found myself under similar circumstances a while back. I was faced with an opportunity for a new job. I was very intrigued by the company because I had heard so many great things. I felt ready for something new in my career, but I also knew this change would require a lot more out of me and I wasn’t sure if I could handle that pressure. I was also concerned that leaving my current job would hurt my team, but I had to do what I felt was best for my career and family. So, I took a leap of faith. I was excited as well as nervous. I even doubted my decision at times, but I reminded myself, not only did “I think I can,” “I KNOW I can.” So, if we apply the principle of “I think I can” to these types of opportunities, we may make some progress. But, what we need to start having is an “I KNOW I can” mentality instead of "I THINK I can." It was worth it for me in the end.
Never let anything come in between achieving your dreams, goals, and growth. So, the next time you start to doubt yourself or feel like we’re not making any progress in your career, erase that doubt and KNOW that you can do whatever you put your mind and heart toward.
A lot of times, we will see growth opportunities in our career that we would like to participate in, but fear starts to come in to play and we start to doubt ourselves. Nobody knows you better than yourself and we should be fully confident in our God-given talents and gifts. Sometimes we should take the time to look at where we came from and smile on our journey thus far. Think about yourself from 10 years ago. What would you say if you saw you now?
