Good Isn’t Good Enough – Why I’m Focused on Greatness

In previous blogs I’ve written about moving from good to great, to become the Wise Firm, to accomplish smart, sustainable growth. This requires an uncommon discipline to become knowledge leaders, engage our clients face-to-face on future challenges and deliver services that leave their businesses better than we found them.

In order to make the journey to greatness a reality, we must create a sense of urgency and a daily action plan. It’s about winning during times when it’s hard to grow. You have to do things daily that your competition doesn’t, or isn’t willing to do.

How do I determine where to focus? I ask myself these questions to help set my daily action plan. How will I make progress every day to make sure we win now? What is critically important? How can I unclog my calendar to make time for these important things? How can I be face to face more? What can I learn today that will make me a knowledge leader? How can I best share my knowledge? What challenges are my team and my clients facing?

As leaders, we must prioritize and make sure we schedule time in advance to get the really important things done. What can I do today, tomorrow, next week and next month to help move my firm, myself as a leader, from good to great? This journey will not happen if we wait until we have the time, we must make the time to act now.

Good intentions will not get your calendar full of the right activity. Let’s stop and take action, unclog busy calendars and reschedule priorities. Will you choose to pursue greatness today?
