Proactive Guidance: A Key to Client and Team Success

Our clients, prospects and teams want more proactive interactions from us. They want to hear your point of view, your thought leadership and your advice. Not only do we want to be their first call, they actually want us proactively reaching out to them to provide guidance and create that safe haven they need to succeed. We may even need to help them understand when they are wrong. In my experience, they respect a point of view even if they might not agree.

When I think about why we are not better at proactively guiding, I always come to the word “busy.” We get busy on things (things that seem important), but if these things were delayed or forgotten, it would not change our world. However, if we prioritized proactively guiding each of our clients and teams, it would change our world. If we are going to reach our full potential as leaders, let’s help each other understand what might be “busy” work. Let’s really focus on creating value and making a difference for each of our clients and for each team member.

Each of us must have a front of mind attitude to proactively guide. Guidance includes affirming the greatness in each other as well as what we need to work on. Guidance includes helping others see how to find their highest best use, exchanging busy for best.
